Why Gary Fong Switched To Sony

Gary Fong is an interesting figure in the photography world. The creator of a number of lighting tools, Fong has created an empire around his tutorials and products. Some people feel that products like his Lightsphere are a godsend and some feel like they’re overhyped.

But Fong has made a great career out of his photography work, and he’s a regular speaker at photographic trade shows and events. In this video from WPPI in Las Vegas in 2015, Fong explains why he switched from nearly 100-percent Canon for his personal work to entirely-Sony. Fong still shoots all the platforms to test out the gear for his sites, but for his own work he’s all-Sony, all the time.

Since he’s not officially backed by Sony (he’s not an Ambassador or Artisan) this vide of why Gary Fong switched to Sony is a particularly interesting look at why someone would switch platforms.

This was my presentation at the Sony booth at WPPI in Las Vegas, 2015 where I explain the reasons behind my switch from shooting almost 100% Canon to Sony for all of my personal work.
I still shoot all of the different brands to test performance, but for my own enjoyment I shoot Sony. I am not a Sony Artisan, and have no formal relationship with Sony to promote their brand. They have no input as to what I say, do not offer suggestions on what they would like me to broadcast, and they do not censor or even comment on my editorials.
This video will show the technical reasons behind the switch, and why the Sony Alpha system offers tremendous advantages over what is now rapidly appearing to being an outdated format, the DSLR. After having played with the early A230, then the A77, I began purchasing pretty much the entire alpha series and lenses for my personal use.
I currently own the A99, A77ii, A7ii, A7R, A7S, A6000 and A7, as well as the entire lens line with the exception of some specialized glass. Each body and lens offers different applications, and I discuss them here. Hopefully this will also aid you in deciding which of the Sony Alpha cameras is best for your needs.
