The firmware update is available as a .exe file for Windows, there is not a Mac installer currently available on the Sony site.

Sony is offering a software update for Interchangeable E-Mount Lenses “SEL35F28Z”, “SEL2470Z”, “SEL55F18Z”, “SEL70200G” and “SEL2870”..
Improvements:
This update provides the “Quick starting” function.Notes:
*This Lens system software update is available in E-mount body. But it is not available in NEX-5, NEX-3, NEX-C3, NEX-VG10, PXW-FS7.
*Lens released after October 2014, (including lens SEL1635Z/SELP28135G) have the “Quick starting” function.
Check the System Software version
Note: This update is intended for Lens that currenltly have a System Software version 01.
Select Menu > Setup > Version on the camera.
The Lens System Software version is displayed.Note: If you are using the QX series, start the Lens system software updater in the PC. You can check the Lens system software version by running the update.
If current version is 02, update is not required.

Power source for the camera
Fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or AC Adaptor AC-PW20 (Sold Separately). Note: The upgrade can be performed only when the remaining battery level is (three marks) or more. We recommend that you use a fully charged battery or the AC Adaptor AC-PW20 (Sold Separately). Detach the vertical grip when you update lens system software.
Important Notes
Preparation Notes:
When performing the Lens system software update, please use a fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FW50 or the AC adaptor AC-PW20 (sold separately).
Do not remove the battery pack or AC adaptor during the update; otherwise, the camera may become inoperable due to the sudden power shutdown.
Remove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
Please make sure to attach the lens to the camera before performing the Lens system software update.
*Before you attach the lens to the camera, please make sure to turn off the camera.

This Lens system software update can be performed only when the lens is attached to the camera.
*You cannot perform the Lens system software update using other camera.

Download the update fileClick on the download button to begin download. Please save the downloaded file onto the Desktop of your computer (recommended).For Windows 8/Windows 8.1 users:
Under the initial settings of Internet Explorer, the update file will be saved in the Downloads folder. Click the Desktop tile from the Start screen and find the downloaded file in the Downloads folder by using Explorer.
Start the Lens System Software updaterClose all currently running programs on your computer.
Double click Update_SEL55F18ZV2D.exe to start up Lens System Software Updater.
Check the USB connection mode
Turn on the camera.
*If the camera has already been turned on, turn it off and then turn it on again.
According to the instruction on Lens System Software Updater, select Menu > Setup (4) > USB Connection on the camera, and check if Mass Storage is selected.
(If you are using the QX series, this step is not necessary) If the mode other than Mass Storage is selected, please select Mass Storage.
Connect the camera to the computerRemove the memory card from the camera beforehand.
Connect the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.Note: If an error message appears on the computer screen, please try the following methods.
* Disconnect the USB cable from the camera, then reconnect the USB cable.
* If there are another USB terminal with the computer, reconnect the USB cable to another USB terminal.
Confirm is displayed on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen.Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
After confirming the above, click Next on Lens System Software Updater. Figure below appears on Lens system software Updater and on the LCD screen of the camera respectivrly.Note: From now on, never turn off the camera until the Lens system software update is completed. It might take a few minutes before the screen changes depending on the camera model.Note:
– When the message “The update is not available for your model.” appears on the screen, check if the Lens System Software Updater is the correct file for the lens which is attached to the camera.
– When the message above appears although the correct Lens System Software Updater is running, close the Lens System Software Updater, disconnect the USB cable, turn off the camera, and then go back to the step 2 “Start up Lens System Software Updater”.
– When the message “Could not find the camera with the lens for this update mounted.” appears on the screen, check if the camera is among the mentioned models and if the camera is connected to the computer with USB cable.
Check if update is required
After confirming the screens above, click Next. The current version and the version after the update appear on the lower left part of the screen.
Confirm Current version is Ver. 01 and click Next.Note: If the Current version is Ver. 02, the update is not required. According to the message, stop the USB connection and click Finish. Turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn on the camera again.*Update is required *Update is not required
Start the update
Start transfer the lens system software. The progress bar appears while transferring data (approximately 5 seconds).Note: Never turn off the camera nor disconnect the USB cable while updating.
When transferring data is completed, the screen below appears. Click on Finish.
The update process starts and the progress bar is displayed on the camera screen (approximately 30 seconds).
Complete the update
The update process is finished when the “Lens update complete.” message is displayed on the camera screen. If you are using the QX series, the update process is finished when the screen of QX series disappears.
Click on the task tray at the lower right corner of the computer screen to stop the USB connection.Note: If is not displayed on the task tray, please proceed to the next step.
Disconnect the USB cable.Note: After finishing the update, turn off the camera, remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then turn ON the camera again.
Check the Lens System Software versionFollow the instruction below to confirm the lens System software version is Ver. 02.
Select Menu > Setup > Version on the camera.
