For more than half a century, CP+ has been a venue dominated by the two Japanese camera giants — Canon and Nikon. But Sony’s emergence is a breath of fresh air in the slumping industry.
That quote from the Asian Nikkei sums up what’s happening in the mirrorless market; including mentions of stiff competition from Panasonic and Fujifilm. Sony’s booth at CP+ (a camera tradeshow in Japan) was the company’s largest ever and 55% bigger than last year.
Also noteworthy in the news, was the fact that Sony plans to spin off its camera and broadcasting equipment business in April. The new company will be headed by Executive Vice President Shigeki Ishigaki, who was responsible for launching the compact Cyber Shot cameras.
What I can gather from the booth and company spin-off, is we can expect 2017 to be another banner year for Sony.
And we’ll be there to share the news.
