Sony Updates SD Card Speed to Blazing Fast

With each new body and lens, Sony fills in gaps their camera line in and either answers their critics or addresses an issue. In the case of cameras with high frame rates and video, their cards weren’t known for robustness or speed. I had one fail at a media event and spent hours recording it. It’s the dreaded

Unable to display.

Error and if you ever see that, turn the camera off, pull the card, and try to recover it. DO NOT attempt an Image DB recovery unless you absolutely must. In announcing their new blazing fast card speeds, Sony is also offering a data rescue tool. Again, addressing an issue and software that’s hopefully tweaked for their files system, as recovering is not guaranteed and results mixed.

World’s Fastest SD Card

Claiming the world’s fastest AF acquisition, Sony is now following up with the world’s fastest card speed. In 32, 64, and 128GB configs, the SF-G series boasts an ultra-fast write speed up to 299 MB/s – fast enough to support the continuous shooting of high-resolution images and supports the UHS-II interface. Just this weekend, I shot with RX100 V in HFR and was unable to do any other task with the camera while it wrote to the card.

As soon as the new cards ship, we’ll get them to test and report. The card features and specs are below. Pricing was not announced and the cards are expected to ship in March.
