New Zeiss Batis Lenses For Sony Promise Incredible Image Quality, Features

Zeiss today announced two new lenses in a new class, designed specifically and only for the Sony Alpha (a7) series of cameras. The new Zeiss Batis lenses for Sony include the Zeiss Batis 2/25 and 1.8/85, the “first full-frame autofocus lenses with an OLED display for the mirrorless Sony α series.” The company says these lenses “enable outstanding outcomes with optimal image performance, impressive contrast and maximum resolution down to the very last detail”
The OLED display replaces the traditional focus and aperture display rings, showing the distance from focal plane to distance and the selected aperture, adding that “for the demanding photographer, the OLED display is an absolute highlight – an innovation that is currently unparalleled in camera lenses.”
The ZEISS Batis 2/25 and Batis 1.8/85 lenses will be available for purchase from July 2015. The 25mm f/2 lens will cost $1299 and the 85mm f/1.8 $1199.
In the teaser video for the Batis lenses, a photographer is seen walking toward a helicopter in a heavy rain, indicating the lenses are well water sealed.
