Sony Camera Tethered Shooting Enabled With Android App

Android users can enjoy remote Sony tethered shooting with the Sony a7S and A7II using RCCDroidPro, which is available both in a free and a Pro version.

(Their site also lists the A7X, though that was the assumed name for the fifty-megapixel Sony Alpha camera that never materialized at the Photokina trade show.) The app, which is available in a standard (free) and Pro ($4.99) version is on the Google Play store.

Before we delve into the list of features, be aware that your camera phone obviously must be an Android device but it also must support “USB-host” ability, the operating system’s ability to use remote drives for storage using an Android feature called On-The-Go storage. This allows users to tap into hard drives and other storage devices to save files.

To determine if your phone or tablet supports this, download the free USB OTG Checker.

You will also need an OTG cable adapter, which goes from the Micro USB port on the Android device to the standard USB connector the camera uses. Here is one of those cables on Amazon.

The A58 and A99 were the only ones supported on the original release. We are testing this now.
