Up until now, Capture One styles weren’t that useful. They were lovely and worked like filters or presets, but I don’t want to filter my photos. I want to save time in post-production and that’s what the new Capture One Editorial Color Grading Style Pack now does.
That’s because, for the first time, Capture One didn’t create the styles themselves but teamed up with Marie Bärsch, Michael Woloszynowicz, and Pratik Naik. They are 3 acclaimed photographers and retouchers whose work can be found in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Cosmopolitan among others.
Their approach to the styles are contemporary and timeless. They each created 7 styles that reflect their individual aesthetic and yours. Once applied, a style can be tuned and refined to suit an individual taste.
I most recently used the pack on this sprout photo.
And, still from a drone video.
Those are two totally different scenes, lenses, and cameras.
After previewing the styles, I added one as a layer and controlled its intensity with the opacity slider. With the original photo on a background layer, the applied style works as my starting point (blue/yellow hues) or a finishing touch to give a specific nuanced flair. Once you apply a style and then work with the luminosity tool, you can really get a specific effect to happen.
