Speculation about a medium format camera from Sony started from an interview with Sony Exec during CES and now has intensified when their sensor roadmap was announced at CeBit. The application for a 150MP sensor, as Sony shares, is for aerial photos, surveillance, and cultural work, like scanning art. Those hopeful for medium format guess the sensor in Sony’s roadmap would get put into cameras like the Phase One.
Sony’s prowess in the sensor market isn’t surprising or that they’d have a roadmap. We don’t publish rumors here, having plenty to write about without them, but will note it’s more likely than not, you’ve either taken a photo with a Sony sensor and/or had a photo taken of you with one.
Sony sensors are that prevalent.
