Sony FE 2/28MM Samples – First Impressions

We just unpacked our Sony FE 2/28MM lens and took our first batch of sample images. The lens, which is bigger and wider than the Sony 35mm F2.8 Sonnar T* FE ZA—which has become our go-to lens for walking around—is probably  our new contender for our standard lens.

Photos have been resized from the original for quick loading in the gallery above—the gallery tool reduces the overall sharpness of the images. The gallery below is thumbnails that link to the full size JPEGS.  We will be posting a high-res sample of original RAW files to download shortly.

The build isn’t as solid as Zeiss-branded lenses, it doesn’t feel as zoftig, but it feels more solid than the 35mm f/2.8.

This first gallery was good timing, as my son and I were painting some Mother’s Day gifts when UPS showed up. More sample images are coming (and if there’s something you’d like to see us capture, let us know in the comments.)

This lens is now available for purchase on Amazon, and purchasing from this link supports this site.

My daily shooter is Sony A1 with a vertical grip and various Sony lenses attached like the FE 20mm F1.8. Find more gear recommendations in our shop. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
