Today Apple announced an iPad Pro with LiDAR and enhanced MacBook Air. The device I use the most, besides my camera, is the iPad Pro. The upgrade boosts an already impressive machine. The new 13” MacBook Air, like the iPad Pro, offers an all-around hardware and performance boost. According to Apple, the MacBook Air is now twice as fast as its predecessor, with double the storage, and the new Magic Keyboard. The Magic Keyboard has a new scissor mechanism for those who do not like the butterfly keys.
Like last year’s model, the iPad Pro is available in 11 and 12.9” size variations, with storage options ranging from 128GB all the way up to 1TB. The chassis is identical to its predecessor, but with a new chip and camera setup. The A12Z Bionic is “faster and more powerful than most Windows PC laptops.”
Stacked with an eight-core GPU and Apple’s sophisticated Neural Engine, the A12Z Bionic do pretty much anything. The Pro’s other update is a new rear-camera setup, which includes a 12MP wide-angle lens, a 10MP ultra wide-angle lens, and Apple’s groundbreaking new LiDAR Scanner. The LiDAR Scanner uses lasers to measure distances from surrounding objects up to 5m away. This improve the functionality of distance-based applications, like the Measure app. Ot also has the potential to unlock a new world of AR experiences.
The same keyboard attached to the MacBook Air is available as an iPad accessory. The Magic Keyboard, which comes in 11″ and 12.9″ versions.
All the newly announced products are available to preorder from B&H. Te prices start under a grand and on up per configuration. I spec’d mine with 1TB of storage.
