This morning, Sony announced a new lens, the ultra-wide FE 20mm F1.8. This small, lightweight lens has excellent optical characteristics. It will excel at all type of shooting. Such as events, news, landscape, street photography, video, and more.
When asked about Sony’s 56th E-mount lens, Neal Manowitz, deputy president of Imaging Products and Solutions Americas, Sony Electronics, said
We’re driven by the needs of our customers and will continue developing the best tools to meet their creative ambitions.
The 20mm is the widest full-frame prime lens in Sony’s E-mount lineup. The lens design features two advanced aspherical (AA) elements and three extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements. Those elements suppress chromatic aberration and deliver high corner-to-corner image quality. With a lens this sharp, there is minimal distortion, even at the maximum F1.8 aperture.
Expect excellent close-up performance, with a minimum focus distance of 7.5 inches (max. magnification: 0.2 times). Creamy bokeh too. Including astrophotography, the advanced optics will accurately reproduce point light sources with high contrast and minimum sagittal flare.
To summarize, what I’m most interested in, is how compact the lens is. It’ll fit right into one of my bike bags. Still perform at a pro level.
