The Sony a7 III Product of the Year award is another stamp of approval from the camera industry press. The basic model won because, “It’s a superbly versatile camera for both stills and video imaging, at a great price.”
We here at SMP totally agree. I imagine at the Sony offices today, it’s all, “You like me, you really like me” for what you can expect is a bountiful 2018 awards season.
It should be because Sony also won 2 other DPReview awards. Read about those here and here.
And the winning spot this year is taken by the Sony a7 III. Arguably the best-value full-frame ILC available right now, the a7 III is a superbly versatile camera for both stills and video imaging, at a great price.
The DPReview editors also note, “Other cameras in Sony’s lineup offer higher stills resolution and some nice extras, but the a7 III takes most of the essentials, and packages them inside an attractive, very usable and affordable body.”
Switching or upgrading to Sony now costs about $3K with a kit and/or nice lens. That’s the sweet spot of a price point.
The a7 III specs are impressive
Calling the a7 III the basic model is ironic because it’s fully featured. The term refers to what buyers should expect from a “basic camera.” Meaning, it’s entry level but has all the bells and whistles.
When it launched, Sony made this statement, ” There’s no need to compromise even at the entry level.”
Up until now, there’s always been a mirrorless compromise, but not anymore.
