Airpeak Drone Field Test at Remote Island

Airpeak Flies In Japan

An Airpeak Drone Field Test was uploaded to YouTube last week. And, here’s what the team had to say about it.

We have continued with field testing Airpeak in different environments, and in this issue would like to share video footage from field testing in Okinawa’s Iriomote Island.

Footage was recorded using the recently announced 35mm Alpha E-mount FE14mm F1.8GM lens.

That’s exactly what I’d want to do with a drone that connects directly to a camera via the hotshoe. By taking advantage of the ultra wide-angle lens, Sony was able to capture the dynamic natural landscape of Iriomote Island. If the Sony Airpeak Drone Field Test interests you, also see their wind resistance testing.

Sony has published updates since announcing a drone in January. Marketed to the entertainment industry and for industrial applications, the drone seems almost ready to launch. Sony has shared drones in the past, as I wrote in 2018.

Stay informed about Airpeak at their site. The status of the project is still, “Seeking Professional Collaborators.” I’ve signed up and keenly interested in what Sony is doing. Just like the RXO, an action cam with a tripod mount, the drone flies your camera around instead of using an internal one.

My daily shooter is Sony A1 with a vertical grip and various Sony lenses attached like the FE 20mm F1.8. Find more gear recommendations in our shop. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
